Frequent Erie visitor VICTORY/JAMES L. KUBER, and the unit's fleetmate, OLIVE L. MOORE/LEWIS J. KUBER, have been sold to Lower Lakes Transportation in a $40 million dollar transaction. This means that the next time the duo visits Erie they will sport the familiar gray of the Grand River Navigation fleet of vessels.
This also means that frequent Erie visitor MAUMEE is probably headed for the scrapyard; however, that remains to be seen.

MANITOWOC Inbound; Brand New CCGS KELSO Working from Wolverine Marina
MAUMEE departed Erie bound for Cleveland to load salt shortly after midnight last night.
MANITOWOC is currently inbound Erie and should arrive in port at around 2230 this evening to unload stone at Erie Sand and Gravel.
The 2009-built Canadian Coast Guard research vessel KELSO arrived in port at 1500 Monday and has spent the week staying at Wolverine Marina. The 61-foot long KELSO departs each morning at around 0800 and spends its time sampling the water off of Erie and performing hydrographic surveys of the lake bottom. KELSO was designed to be a replacement for the CCGS SHARK and is homeported at Burlington, Ontario.

MAUMEE in Port; MANITOWOC Due
The classic, 1929-built MAUMEE arrived in Erie this evening at around 1930 with salt from Fairport Harbor, Ohio, turned in Presque Isle Bay and docked at the Mountfort Terminal. The MAUMEE should be out of Erie around midnight tonight.
MAUMEE's Lower Lakes Transportation fleetmate MANITOWOC, with stone from Calcite, Michigan, is due in Erie at around 2115 Thursday.

MAUMEE IN PORT
MAUMEE arrived in Erie last night at 2145 and docked at the Mountfort Terminal to unload salt from Fairport Harbor. The MAUMEE unloaded for several hours before departing at around 0300 bound for Marblehead, Ohio to load stone.

MAUMEE in Port
MAUMEE arrived at the outer buoys this morning at 1130 hours and proceeded slowly inbound the port. The vessel spent the next hour proceeding slowly into the channel and docking at the Mountfort Terminal to unload salt loaded at Fairport Harbor, Ohio yesterday and into this morning. This visit is the MAUMEE’s second within two weeks and is the third load of salt received this season in the port.
Up next for the crew at Carmeuse Lime & Stone is the loading of the PANAM FLOTA, expected between May 14 and 16 to load biodiesel for Europe. After that, the W.N. TWOLAN and McALLISTER 132 should be arriving with lumber products.
Lakeshore Towing remains busy with dredging work at Shades Beach. Crews are pumping the dredged material to the east to deepen the channel to the boat launch there and depositing the material back on the lake bottom.

Prior to loading salt in Fairport, the MAUMEE had unloaded stone there. Rather than go out into Lake Erie and wash the deck down before loading, the crew shoveled the spilled stone into one big pile as shown here. The vessel's deck will be rinsed down upon departure from Erie later this afternoon.

MAUMEE in Port; MICHIPICOTEN Ready to Go; ANDRIE Out on Sea Trials
MAUMEE arrived in port at 0030 this morning and moored at the Mountfort Terminal with a cargo of salt from Fairport Harbor, Ohio. The vessel unloadied throughout the night and finished as the first rays of dawn peaked over the horizon at 0555 this morning. MAUMEE's crew quickly cast off and departed the Mountfort Terminal, slowly worked her way into Presque Isle Bay and turn on hard starboard wheel to line up with the channel. The Lower Lakes Transportation-owned, 1929-built classic the proceeded slowly through the channel and into Lake Erie on a gorgeous morning more typical of late May than mid-April, bound for Cleveland's Cargill Salt dock to load.
Meanwhile, across the harbor, MAUMEE's Canadian fleetmate, Lower Lakes Towing's MICHIPICOTEN, is in the final stages of fitout at Erie Shipbuilding and this morning the vessel was waiting on inspection from Lloyd's of London and various government agencies. If all goes well the vessel will be departing today or tomorrow.
MICHIPICOTEN was drydocked for the rebuilding of a piece of machinery in the tail shaft, located at the stern near the propeller. This work was supposed to have been done when the vessel received its five-year survey at Bay Shipbuilding in December; however, Bay Shipbuilding, the largest shipyard on the Great Lakes, did not have the capability to do the work, resulting in Erie Shipbuilding winning the contract. Hopefully, the completion of this work will lead the Lower Lakes fleet to do more business with Erie Shipbuilding.
Fit out work continues on tug KAREN ANDRIE and barge A-397. This afternoon at 1555 the ANDRIE departed Erie on sea trials, returning an hour later after completion of them. A-397 received her five-year survey, along with the Hydraconn coupler system installed on the tug and barge over the winter, while in drydock.
An article in today's Buffalo News indicates that scrapping on the LANSDOWNE is almost complete and the remains will be moved later this week to facilitate scrapping. The two rail cars on the stern have been saved by the Illinois Railway Museum.
MAUMEE completes its turn this morning.

MAUMEE Inbound
MAUMEE, loaded with salt from Fairport Harbor, will be inbound Erie at 12:30 Tuesday morning for the Mountfort Terminal to unload. Depending on the unload time, the vessel will hopefully be in port come daybreak.

MAUMEE in port, Sand Load due
Grand River Navigation's MAUMEE arrived in Erie at 0845 this morning and proceeded inbound the channel to the Mountfort Terminal. The classic, 1929-built former CALCITE II and WILLIAM G. CLYDE was laden with about 12,000 tons of salt from Fairport Harbor, Ohio.
This is the first visit by the MAUMEE to the port since April 24, 2006, when she arrived with salt from Fairport Harbor.
The Grand River Navigation vessel's Canadian fleetmate, Lower Lakes Towing's CUYAHOGA, is due to deliver sand for the beach replenishment when she arrives at 1000 hours Tuesday from Thessalon, Ontario.
