CLIPPER LOYALTY Arrives
CLIPPER LOYALTY spent about six and one-half hours this morning anchored off of Port Colborne, Ontario awaiting a lake pilot and finally got underway at 1120 hours this morning. LOYALTY arrived off of Erie at 1530 and slowly proceeded through the channel before turning in the harbor and docking at the Mountfort Terminal at 1630. Biodiesel loading was to begin sometime this evening.
LOYALTY arrived in port drawing about 7 meters (23 feet) of water. The vessel is partially loaded already with jet fuel from Hamilton, Ontario and will probably not be in port very long. The LOYALTY will likely be here 24 hours or less.
This is the CLIPPER LOYALTY's second visit to Erie to load biodiesel (the first was in August 2009) and is the first load of biodiesel to leave the port this season. CLIPPER LOYALTY is the only tanker to have visited Erie twice to load biodiesel.
This is also the first biodiesel tanker to arrive in Erie since November 27, 2009, when HARBOUR CLOUD arrived in ballast.

H. LEE WHITE in Port; DUTCH RUNNER Transits the Welland Canal
H. LEE WHITE arrived in Erie at 1845 hours on Saturday and docked at the Mountfort Terminal. After unloading part of the stone cargo on board there and the rest at the Old Ore Dock, the WHITE departed in ballast for Toledo to load coal.
Sunday morning, DUTCH RUNNER was upbound in the Welland Canal bound for Thunder Bay, Ontario. The vessel is on its first trip to the upper Great Lakes, and after unloading its project cargo at Thunder Bay will proceed to load wheat there for Quebec City.
Other traffic in the Canal on Sunday morning included the J.W. SHELLEY, ALGOSTEEL and FEDERAL MAAS.

SUPERIOR Departure Video; Lakeshore Towing tows BIG TONY, Donjon Update
Below is video of the SUPERIOR departing last Tuesday. I am working on catching up with all of July's videos and hope to have them posted soon.
Lakeshore Towing's tug DON HENRY towed commercial fisherman BIG TONY back to port at 0830 this morning after the vessel's engine broke down.
Work on tug KEN BOOTHE SR., formerly known as CLYDE VANENKEVORT, is coming along nicely at Donjon Shipbuilding and Repair. Yesterday, yard employees began cutting off the support legs, and are installing the port side propeller shaft. The tug is rumored to be moved farther out into the drydock sometime during the middle of August.

Good Samaritan, Coast Guard, Lakeshore Fire and Rescue Save Four from Lake; BOLAND Photos
As first reported on the Erie Shipping News's Twitter account at 1040 hours Friday, a boater fishing in 70 feet of water off of Elk Creek called Coast Guard Station Erie and reported a 25 foot vessel sinking in a position of 42' 08.817 North, 080' 18.500 West with four persons on board. The four men went into the water when their boat capsized shortly thereafter. The good samaritan managed to pull all of the men out of Lake Erie and headed for Walnut Creek Boat Access, where emergency medical technicians were being sent. The vessel rendezvoused with Lakeshore Fire and Rescue Vessel 509 off of Walnut Creek and transfered the victims to 509 at 1116 hours. Of the four victims, one was showing signs of hypothermia and was taken to shore and quickly transferred to EMS and taken to St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment.
At that time Lakeshore Towing's towboat ENDURANCE and USCG 25573 headed for the swamped vessel. Neither managed to arrive before the boat sank. The vessel is a total loss in about 70 feet of water.
New York State's environmental research vessel ARGO spent last night at Wolverine Marina.

In this video Canada Steamship Lines' SALARIUM is shown while downbound in the Welland Canal with a cargo of coal for Sydney, Nova Scotia on April 30, 2010.
