CORNELIUS in Port; KING B Launched

ADAM E. CORNELIUS arrived in port at around 0400 this morning and docked at the Mountfort Terminal, where the vessel suffered numerous weather and mooring-related delays while unloading stone from Calcite.

This afternoon the CORNELIUS moved over to the Old Ore Dock and finished unloading for departing at around 1700.

Actor Steve Smith, best known for his role as Red Green on PBS, had his new houseboat KING B. launched at Erie Shipbuilding today after being trucked here from Kentucky. The boat will be stored at Wolverine Marina for several weeks.

Apparently, KING B. was going to be lifted in by the Port Authority's TravelLift, but the weight distribution of the vessel would have tripped the lift's overload alarm. As such, Erie Shipbuilding was chosen to make the lift.

MANITOWOC in Port, CORNELIUS Due, KING B to be Lifted

MANITOWOC arrived in port at 0115 this morning with stone from Port Inland and docked at the Old Ore Dock, where the vessel unloaded throughout the early morning hours before departing at 0730 bound for Toledo to load coal.

Meanwhile, ADAM E. CORNELIUS, with stone from Calcite, is due at 0230 Thursday morning.

Also on Thursday, actor Steve Smith's houseboat, KING B, is scheduled to be lifted into the water at Erie Shipbuilding. The vessel will be stored in Erie for several weeks before heading to Hamilton, Ontario.

TV'S RED GREEN MAY COME TO ERIE

For those wondering what in the world this post might have to do with the subject of this blog, please keep reading.

According to a story published on Friday, July 18 in the Hamilton Spectator, Steve Smith, star of PBS' Red Green series, recently purchased a new houseboat in Mississippi, with plans to take the vessel back to his native Hamilton, Ontario via the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes. However, flood currents on the Mississippi River delayed the voyage in Kentucky, where Smith decided to have the houseboat disassembled, and, beginning July 27, trucked across several states.

The houseboat's final destination via truck is Erie, Pennsylvania, meaning Smith will likely get to Erie with the boat. Here in Erie, the houseboat will be reassembled, placed in the water, and sailed down the Welland Canal sometime in August.
