CHEYENNE Returns FARRELL 256

I am attempting to get caught up on two months worth of photos; please bear with me.

CHEYENNE and barge FARRELL 256, after 11 days working taking soil samples off of Cleveland, returned to Erie on Wednesday afternoon. The tug and barge took soil samples for LEEDCo, which is attempting to develop an offshore wind farm off of Cleveland.

CHEYENNE enters the West Slip on August 27. The tug would depart with FARREL 256 on the evening of the 28th.

Later on the 27th, ELIZABETH ANNA, Donjon's new ship assist tug stationed in Erie, returns to her dock on the east side of the shipyard after helping CHEYENNE shift the FARREL 256 to the north side of the shipyard.

A man parasails past the ship, which had been in Erie for repairs to her starboard propeller hub.

The ship's bow thruster wasn't working properly, leading her to take tug escorts up the St. Clair and St. Marys rivers, as well as in Duluth, on her first trip out.

Close up.

PRESQUE ISLE was able to spend so much time out of service for repairs due to sluggish demand for iron ore.

MANISTEE Visits Twice; FARRELL 256 on Job

MANISTEE arrived in Erie at 1400 on October 28 and docked at the Mountfort Terminal to unload salt from Fairport Harbor. This cargo was Erie's second salt delivery of the year. MANISTEE departed at 1830.

Shortly thereafter, tug OHIO arrived and departed at 1630 with the crane barge FARRELL 256 in tow for Buffalo. Donjon Marine won a contract to remove the gates of the Black Rock Lock, which were to be taken to Cleveland. Gate removal is currently complete and OHIO and FARRELL 256 remain in Buffalo. This is the first time FARRELL has been outside of Erie harbor since arriving in 2011.

MANISTEE returned with another cargo of salt on October 30 and unloaded at the Mountfort Terminal before departing around 1230 hours.

HERBERT P. BRAKE, Hopper Barge RHETT Depart

HERBERT P. BRAKE removed Sterling Equipment's newly-built hopper barge RHETT from drydock at Donjon Shipbuilding & Repair at 0700 on Friday and moored the barge at the north wall of the shipyard.

BRAKE then proceeded to move crane barge FARRELL 256 to the east side of the shipyard from her dock in front of McKEE SONS, in order to allow for work on replacement of a section of the dock wall to begin.

Once complete, BRAKE mated to the hopper barge RHETT and departed Erie at around 1000, bound for the Welland Canal and then Oswego, New York to enter the New York State Barge Canal. Eventually, RHETT will make its way to Sterling Equipment's base in Quincy, Massachusetts.
