ROGER BLOUGH arrived in Erie on the morning of November 4 for layup at the West Slip. The vessel's layup comes 2.5 months earlier than last season's layup, when she arrived in Erie in mid-January.
DEFIANCE and ASHTABULA arrived in Erie at around 1030 Saturday morning with salt from Fairport Harbor and docked at the Mountfort Terminal. The duo passed PRESQUE ISLE, which anchored in the lake to await the ASHTABULA before laying up at the Mountfort Terminal. DEFIANCE/ASHTABULA departed Saturday evening.
PRESQUE ISLE, with assistance from tug MANITOU, arrived in Erie at 0530 Sunday morning for layup at the Mountfort Terminal. The barge's bow thruster was not working, which required tug assistance in winds said to be up to 40 knots.
KEN BOOTHE SR. and LAKES CONTENDER arrived in Erie at 2000 on Sunday night, paying the duo's second visit to Erie since being built here in 2012. The duo unloaded stone at the Old Ore Dock and departed at 0800 Monday morning.

DEFIANCE/ASHTABULA Visit
Tug DEFIANCE and barge ASHTABULA arrived in Erie at 1300 on Saturday with a cargo of stone from Marblehead. The duo docked at the Old Ore Dock to unload before departing later Saturday night for Sandusky to load a coal cargo.
This is the duo's first visit to Erie since coming to the Great Lakes in 2012.

DEFIANCE/ASHTABULA Due
Tug DEFIANCE and barge ASHTABULA, with stone from Marblehead, Ohio, are due in Erie at 1215 this afternoon. This is the duo's first visit ever to Erie since coming to the Lakes to operate for Grand River Navigation in 2012.

Barge A-390 Due for Drydocking
Andrie's barge A-390, pushed by tug BARBARA ANDRIE, is due in Erie later this week for drydocking. The duo will probably arrive late on November 15 or early on the 16th after unloading cargo at Monroe, Michigan.
BARBARA ANDRIE/A-390 were last in Erie on November 15, 2005, when the unit arrived and docked at Erie Shipbuilding LLC for engine repairs to the tug. The duo departed five days later.

The museum ship COL. JAMES M. SCHOONMAKER was moved from its dock in Toledo, Ohio downriver about a mile to a new berth on October 27, by two tugs from Great Lakes Towing Company. Here, tug MISSISSIPPI arrives to hook up to the SCHOONMAKER.
Tug NEBRASKA, the bow tug on the tow, arrives.
The tow of the 1911-built SCHOONMAKER gets underway. The former WILLIS B. BOYER of Cleveland Cliffs, it was returned to its original name last year and given its new paint scheme.
Taken from the Martin Luther King Jr. bridge across the Maumee River, the SCHOONMAKER tow moves downriver. Donors to the project were invited to ride downriver on deck of the SCHOONMAKER.

In Port Huron, Michigan, later that afternoon, Canfornav's EIDER was downbound with a cargo of canola from Thunder Bay, Ontario bound for Veracruz, Mexico.
EIDER comes under the Blue Water Bridges, linking Port Huron, Michigan to Sarnia, Ontario.

On November 3, Grand River Navigation's new tug-barge unit DEFIANCE/ASHTABULA arrived in Buffalo to deliver its first cargo after spending all year undergoing conversion for Great Lakes service at Sturgeon Bay.
Tug WASHINGTON assists the duo downriver at 1600 that afternoon. The ASHTABULA would lose its bow thruster coming around this turn, so it was fortunate for the tug's captain that the WASHINGTON was assisting the duo downriver.

Coast Guard Unit Dispatched to Brig NIAGARA
Coast Guard station Ashtabula has just dispatched a 25-foot unit to the Brig NIAGARA, which is underway in Lake Erie. No word yet on what the nature of the distress of the NIAGARA is.

Ryba Marine tug KATHY LYNN, Barges Visit Temporarily
Ryba Marine Contracting's tug KATHY LYNN, pushing empty scows CT 251 and CT 252 and spud barge CT 150 arrived in Erie at around 0400 Sunday and docked at the Mountfort Terminal to escape the rough waters of Lake Erie. The KATHY LYNN departed Rochester, New York on Thursday after completing a year-long dredging project there and was bound for Ashtabula, Ohio.
Once Lake Erie calmed, the KATHY LYNN and barges departed the Mountfort Terminal at around 0930, turned in Presque Isle Bay and departed for Ashtabula. The crew of the KATHY LYNN used one of the spuds on CT 150 as an anchor to turn on in the bay.
The last time KATHY LYNN was in Erie was May 30, 2008 when the tug brought CT 150 into Erie to load the crane that is now on the barge.
