ERIKA KOBASIC in port, briefly

Basic Towing's Escanaba, Michigan-based tug ERIKA KOBASIC, after leaving Buffalo light tug this morning, stopped in Erie at around 1530 this afternoon, sailed into the West Slip, backed out and departed Erie for Escanaba.

At this time I'm not sure of the reason the KOBASIC was in Erie.

"Erika" transfered tow of a loadline deck barge 43x200 to New York State Marine Highway Transportation Company's "Benjamin Elliot".

The "Ben" was in Buffalo having towed (2) Navy LCM "Mike Boats" from Waterford, NY

The Mike Boats were picked up earlier by the "Ben" in Cleveland and tranfered to the "Margot" for the coatstal tow to Norfolk. The Mike boats were rehabed at a yard in Norfolk, VA.

The 43x200 will also be handed off to the "Margot" in Waterford.

"Margot" is also owned by NYS Marine Highway. The "Ben" was utilized as she could fit in the lock with both Mike Boats at once.

NYS Marine Highway Transportation Co., LLC and Basic Marine have transfered tows in the past at either Buffalo or Oswego.
