CALUMET arrived in Erie at 1530 hours on Thursday, September 3 with stone from Calcite, Michigan and docked at the Old Ore Dock to unload. After unloading, the vessel departed at 2200 bound for Toledo, Ohio to load coal for the Detroit Edison power plant in Marysville, Michigan.

LAUD Arrives, Unloads, and Heads for Layup; Cruise Ship GRANDE MARINER Due

SAM LAUD arrived in Erie this morning at around 0300 and backed into the Old Ore Dock to unload stone from Calcite, Michigan. The LAUD unloaded through the early morning hours and departed at 0930 this morning bound for Toledo, Ohio's CSX Coal Dock 2 for temporary layup. The vessel joins numerous American Steamship fleetmates in layup due to the economy.

Cruise ship GRANDE MARINER is due to arrive in Erie at 1300 on Friday. This is the first of three visits the MARINER and her American Canadian Caribbean Line fleetmate NIAGARA PRINCE will make to Erie this season. The NIAGARA PRINCE will arrive in Erie on July 23, and the GRANDE MARINER will return on August 18.

Tug SEA SERVICE, Barge ENERGY 6506 Wait

This morning at 1030, tug SEA SERVICE and barge ENERGY 6506, on an upbound voyage in ballast from Hamilton, Ontario to Toledo, Ohio, anchored off of Lawrence Park. The duo, which normally carries aviation fuel on a dedicated run from Toledo to Hamilton, was still there this evening. At this time the reason for their anchoring is unknown, as they are in an odd spot to be anchored to wait for weather, as there is really no shelter where the duo is.

MANITOWOC in Port; MISSISSAGI Due

MANITOWOC arrived in port this morning at 0930 on its first visit to the port. The Lower Lakes Transportation-owned vessel docked at the Mountfort Terminal to unload stone from Stoneport, and shifted to the Old Ore Dock at around 1300. Three hours later, MANITOWOC was finished unloading and departed, clearing Erie at 1645 bound for Toledo to load coal.

MISSISSAGI, with sand from Thessalon, is due in Erie at 2015 tomorrow.

H. LEE WHITE INBOUND

H. LEE WHITE, with stone from Calcite, Michigan, is now inbound Erie and should be tied up at the Mountfort Terminal by midnight. After unloading, the vessel should be out at dawn tomorrow bound for Toledo, Ohio to load coal.

MICHIPICOTEN May Not Sail As Expected

MICHIPICOTEN may be wintering in Erie for a longer than expected undergoing repairs at Erie Shipbuilding. The vessel, which had been scheduled to load at the CSX Coal Dock in Toledo on Saturday, has been taken off the dock's schedule and replaced with fleetmate CUYAHOGA.

Tentative Sailing Dates- MICHIPICOTEN, CASON J. CALLAWAY

Tentatively, the MICHIPICOTEN and CASON J. CALLAWAY should both sail from Erie on March 21. Both vessels are due in Toledo at the CSX Coal Dock the morning of March 22 to load coal.

The CALLAWAY will load coal for Detroit; the MICHIPICOTEN will load for Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

TWOLAN/McALLISTER 132 DUE

W.N. TWOLAN and barge McALLISTER 132, which last week loaded 5,500 tons of kraft paper in Thunder Bay for Erie, had been waiting weather in Toledo since Wednesday. However, they are now underway and due in Erie at around 0500 tomorrow.

SAND LOAD (Finally) ARRIVES

Carrying 16,000 tons of long-awaited sand for beach replenishment from Thessalon, Ontario, the CUYAHOGA arrived in port at 1100 today, turned in the bay and proceeded through the channel to dock at the North Pier to unload. By 1625 this afternoon the sand was unloaded and CUYAHOGA was outbound for Toledo to load corn.

The pretty, 1943-built CUYAHOGA made its first visit to Erie since October 22, 2006, when she also unloaded sand at the North Pier.
