Archive Photos I: CAPT. HENRY JACKMAN

As the season winds down, I will be posting photos taken before the founding of the Erie Shipping News. This will continue throughout the winter months.

The following photos show the CAPT. HENRY JACKMAN inbound Erie on August 22, 2005 at 0830. This was, to the best of my knowledge, the JACKMAN's first visit ever to the port of Erie. The JACKMAN would visit again on December 23 that year, and has not returned since. On this trip the vessel had a cargo of stone from Bruce Mines and Thessalon, Ontario.

Historical Photos: DAY PECKINPAUGH

This December 2, 1990 photo by Jim Sprunt shows the former Erie Sand cement carrier DAY PECKINPAUGH upbound in the Welland Canal on its way to Erie for winter layup. Note the Christmas tree on deck.

The PECKINPAUGH is now a floating museum in New York state, a tribute to the history of the New York State Barge Canal.
