VICTORY/JAMES L. KUBER in Port

VICTORY/JAMES L. KUBER arrived in Erie at 1430 on Saturday, and docked at the Old Ore Dock to unload stone from Cedarville. KUBER unloaded and departed around 2300 bound for Toledo, Ohio to load coal for Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Tug VICTORY has been painted black, and received Lower Lakes Towing colors on her cabins, since her last visit to Erie last year.

VICTORY/JAMES L. KUBER, with stone from Cedarville, is expected in Erie at 1530 on Saturday afternoon.

FEDERAL YUKON Has Quick Turnaround

FEDERAL YUKON lifted anchor on Saturday at 0700 and slowly proceeded inbound to Erie. YUKON turned in Erie harbor, docked at the Mountfort Terminal, and after discharging one transformer that was placed on a railcar, departed at 1130 bound for Milwaukee and Burns Harbor to finish discharging cargo.

Inbound. YUKON was built in 2000 and has traded into the Great Lakes ever since. FEDERAL YUKON has ten sisterships in the Fednav fleet, all built at Oshima Shipbuilding in Japan.

FEDERAL YUKON Waits

FEDERAL YUKON arrived off Erie and anchored east of the Lawrence Park Golf Course this afternoon at 1600. The vessel anchored due to high winds, and is expected to arrive during the morning of September 1.

FEDERAL YUKON is expected in Erie tomorrow at 1600.

McKEE SONS Due

INVINCIBLE/McKEE SONS, loaded with stone, is due in Erie at 0900 Monday. This is the tug/barge unit's first visit since May, 2008.

TREGURTHA DEPARTS

In a strange turn of events, PAUL R. TREGURTHA was removed from the graving dock at Donjon Shipbuilding and Repair this morning by tug MANITOU. TREGURTHA departed at 0745 bound for Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, for repairs from last week's grounding.

TREGURTHA is severely damaged; among other items needing repaired is the fact that more than half of the vessel's port rudder is missing. MANITOU will escort the vessel to Sturgeon Bay.

TREGURTHA DRYDOCKED

At 0615 this morning, PAUL R. TREGURTHA backed away from the east side of Donjon Shipbuilding and Repair into Presque Isle Bay. The TREGURTHA passed a stern line to the tug MANITOU and used its bow thruster to line up for the drydock. TREGURTHA proceeded bow-first into the drydock, which is rarely done.

Most vessels proceed stern first into the graving dock for repairs; however, TREGURTHA, due to the nature of its damage, proceeded bow-first into the graving dock to allow much of the damaged area to be inside of the building at the south end of the dock.

By 0730 TREGURTHA was in drydock and MANITOU departed, bound for her home port of St. Clair, Michigan. PAUL R. TREGURTHA is reportedly expected to be in drydock for more than a month for repairs.
